What is WeMix?

WeMix is the people’s record label.  We mean it.  We even trademarked that slogan. Why?  Because we think there’s a better way to make music: give talented newcomers like you a place to prove yourselves online, and then link you with top musical talent and producers to make hit songs together.  It’s that simple.

 

What if I can’t sing or play an instrument?

It doesn’t matter. WeMix is a songwriting and music creation community.  We’ve built all kinds of ways for you to contribute, critique, and create.

 

·         You can submit original song demos for consideration - and they don’t have

to be complete, 4-minute songs.  We accept beats, drumrolls, guitar licks, sound effects – whatever you think is a building block for cool music.

 

·         You can submit original rhymes and lyrics to use in upcoming WeMix songs as we create them in the studio.

 

·         You can play with songs and videos to make your own mixes and creations inside the WeMix Mashpit.

 

·         And you can vote for your favorite songs and promote your favorite artists – and truly influence what songs we record.

 

I’m not really into hip hop. Can I still join?

Sure you can. WeMix is open to every musical genre in the world. Luda is one of the game’s biggest collaborators; he’s all about breaking new ground and making all kinds of records with WeMix members. We’ve got lots of other guest stars on the team too. The whole point is to find talented newcomers and mix them together with rock stars to collaborate and make great music.

 

Sounds cool, how do I get started?

It’s simple.  Go to the homepage. Click the large red box titled Join. Follow the easy instructions to create your own WeMix page. It’s totally free and only takes a few minutes. Once you register, you can immediately start uploading audio and video files of your original songs. You can also call the Luda Line 24-7 to audition for WeMix songs and enter our freestyle rap contests.

 

What if I don’t have a video of my song?

That’s fine. You can upload mp3 and other song files and use artwork, designs and photos to create your own WeMix avatar.

 

What if I already belong to another social network?

Not a problem. It’s easy to link your WeMix pages and spread your WeMix creations to your existing pages at myspace, facebook, and others.  Whenever you post a song file or review the system automatically creates an easy link to click in to other sites.  You can click “Share It” to send an email inviting your friends to hear your new song, and you can click “Embed It” to grab the code that puts the song onto your other social network pages. In fact, that’s exactly what we want you to do, because the top-rated songs and performers on WeMix are the ones who collaborate with Ludacris and other star musicians.

 

Do my original songs belong to me?

Yes they do.  WeMix is your record label. You don’t have to hand over your rights when you join, but you do have to promise that you (and only you) actually wrote/created that song. If we take the next step and produce your record with Ludacris and our All-Stars, then we’ll put together a detailed agreement between you and WeMix. And if you happen to get signed by another record company, we ask that you give us the chance to match it.  Click here to see a full copy of our terms of use.

 

What if I want to protect my music from other members?

That’s cool.  Other members can listen to your songs or send links to other friends, but right now they can’t download your music and make changes to it - unless they have illegal software that we don’t support.

 

We urge you to share your music for all WeMix members and listeners. That’s why we created WeMix.

 

What is the Mashpit?

The Mashpit is a music creation playground for all to enjoy. There’s a lot to do at the Mashpit.  You can take a song and add scratches, chops, screws and other effects to it.  You can also create your own video WeMixes by “grabbing” images from WeMix or from any source and mashing them with WeMix music.  You can even bring in feeds from youtube and your own video camera to put your images on top of WeMix songs.

 

The Mashpit is your place to explore, have fun, and be creative, right here at WeMix.

 

What happens to my music inside the Mashpit?

While it might seem like other people are changing or re-recording your songs inside the Mashpit, THEY ARE NOT.  The Mashpit simply connects 2 songs or videos, lets you add effects to it, and saves those settings for others to view.

 

NO NEW SONG OR VIDEO FILE IS CREATED INSIDE THE MASHPIT, AND OTHER ARTISTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO DOWNLOAD OR USE THESE NEW CREATIONS. YOUR ORIGINAL SONGS NEVER CHANGE AND ALWAYS BELONG TO YOU.

 

You do have the ability to allow or disallow your songs for use inside the Mashpit.  The checkbox is located on the listening page for each individual song, inside a bright green box.

 

 

Voting

 

OK, I’ve submitted my songs.  What do I do next?

Tell all your friends to come to WeMix, listen to your song, and vote for it. Then tell them again. And one more time. The top-rated songs and artists get a chance to work with Luda and our All-Stars to turn their original songs into full-fledged records.

It’s a real shot to collaborate with each other and with your heroes - and get into the game for real.

 

 

How do I vote?

It’s easy.  Go to the homepage. Click the large box titled Listen, or click on any thumbnail or song title.  The system will take you right to the song or to a Jukebox to browse.

 

Once you view or listen to a song, you can vote for it one time every few minutes. To make things simple, you have 2 simple voting choices:  Mix It or Fix It.  Mix It means you like the song and think it could be a great record.  You can figure out what Fix it means.

 

One other point: we also keep track of the number of times a song is played by members and viewers, so you need to make sure people listen to your songs too.

 

What happens after I play and vote?

Here’s the best part.  The top-rated songs will become WeMix Tracks, and the people who wrote them will become WeMix Superstars.  We’ll bring these artists to the recording studio with Ludacris and an All-Star team of producers and musicians to turn these demos into hits. The artists will also receive a cash appearance fee, a large split of the publishing revenues from the songs, and potentially a deal to make more music with WeMix.

 

And after that?

We’ll start all over again, find our next WeMix Artists and make more WeMix songs – bringing the community together to collaborate again and again.

 

How do I get onto Luda’s picks or the homepage?

WeMix is all about talent and promotion.  We give you a level playing field and a fair shot to prove that you have the talent and the savvy to be a star.  The best way to get onto the homepage is to get plays and votes for your song.  You have to tell everyone you know to come to the site, find your music, and play it.  It’s really that simple.

We give you all the social networking tools to promote your music.  You can click the link marked “Share It” and send an email inviting your fam to link right to your song.  You can click the link marked “Embed It” to put your song on to your myspace or facebook page.

If you do all of these things, and if your stuff is hot, it will find it’s way onto the homepage and get even more attention from our community.

I saw my song at the homepage but now it’s gone.  Why?

WeMix uses a rotation system for hottest songs. The site displays 6 different tracks in each category – but there are more than 6 in rotation at any given time.  So you might see different songs in the mix every time you reload the page.  If you don’t see your song right away, check back in and it will probably be there.

I’m just getting started – is it too late to catch up?

If you’re new to the site, you might be thinking “how can I catch up to those artists with 300,000 spins?”

The answer is simple: WeMix is NOT a one-time contest.  It’s a movement.  We’re just getting started, and we’re planning to make a lot of records with all kinds of artists and celebrities.  So while it’s fun to watch yourself rise up through the charts, you should NOT give up if you’re behind.  Stay up on the site, keep telling people to play your songs, and in a few weeks or even months you’ll be up there too.  You have to work hard beyond having talent.

Also, you should never forget that there are other songwriting challenges at WeMix. Ringtone contests, open mic freestyles – these are just some of the other ways for you to get famous and get paid – outside of the WeMix Charts.

I see songs with a lot of plays but not votes – what’s up with that?

WeMix is aware that people will try many things to get as many plays as they can at the site.  We are constantly monitoring the system to look for voting and play tricks.

 

If you think something is wrong, send us an email to let us know.  But remember, it is very possible to get a lot of plays in a very short time period – if you have enough friends and fam at the site playing your song.

Registration & Login

Why do I need to Register?

You are required to create an account before posting your song or video. It’s the only way to take advantage of all the WeMix features. It only takes a few minutes so go for it.

 

How do I Register?

To create an account, click the link marked Join at the homepage. Then you complete the registration form to specify details such as your login name, email address, mobile phone (for text messaging Luda), password and more. When you register, please provide your best email mobile phone numbers. You definitely should stay connected to WeMix at all times… cause you never know when Luda might holla at you.

 

I have a User ID and Password.  How do I log in?

After successfully registering you should receive an email confirming your username and password. You can then visit the login page and enter your username and password to start uploading.

 

I never received my confirmation email.  What went wrong?

First, check your spam folder; filters can be too powerful at times, so there’s a chance that it went to there. Next, try re-sending the confirmation e-mail.  If that doesn’t work, click CONTACT US at the bottom of any page and we’ll help you out.

 

The site doesn’t recognize my User ID or Password.  What went wrong?

First, double check to make sure you’ve correctly spelled your user name and password.  The system is case-sensitive.

 

If that fails, click the link marked “Forgot Password” on the top right corner of the homepage. Our system will instantly reset your password and send it to the email address you used when signing up.

 

If none of these steps are successful, click CONTACT US at the bottom of any page and we’ll help you out.

 

I’ve logged in before, but now I can’t?

First, check the spelling on your username and password to make sure it’s correct. Then check again. If you still can’t log in, your account might be on hold due to inactivity. Please click the link marked “Forgot Password” on the homepage and follow instructions.  Or you can click CONTACT US for support.

Member Settings

What is a song profile?

A profile is information about your account that controls how you view information within the WeMix community. This includes details about songs you’ve contributed, personal information you wish to share such as your musical preferences, and settings that control how you interact with this site.

 

What is an avatar?

An avatar is a feature that allows an image to be displayed along with your songs.

You can upload your own avatar, and if you don’t have one, we will automatically display a cool WeMix logo as your WeMix ID.

 

Warning: please don’t use copyrighted or explicit images for your avatar. It might be funny, but we’ll remove these images as soon as we spot them. 

 

Examples: you are probably not Jay-Z, so don’t use his photo as your avatar.  And you might have a really great body, but we can’t let you display a naked picture. Sorry.

 

How do I load art or graphics to create my avatar?

It’s simple.  You can upload pictures on your Artist Page when you sign up for WeMix, or by clicking EDIT.  WeMix only accepts avatar photos in the .jpg format.

 

You can also use one of the pre-selected avatar images by clicking the check boxes right on the edit page.

 

What thumbnail image is displayed if I upload a video?

We take the thumbnail image of the video 10 seconds into the video, so please check that you have a good image to display and not a blank screen.  If the system cannot create an image from your video, it automatically uses your chosen artist avatar.

 

 

Privacy & Security

How do I change my Password?

Once logged in you can change your password from your Profile page by clicking EDIT.

 

How do I change my Username?

You can’t – but you can create a new WeMix ID and bring all your songs, files, friends and reviews over with you.

 

How do I change my email address?

You can’t.  Each WeMix Artist requires a unique email address.  You can try creating a new one and starting over.

 

What Profile settings are required?

The only required profile settings are your first name, last name, birthday, and email address. This is the email address you use when contacting others and joining message boards. It’s important to provide your best email address because that’s how we send you your username and password if you forget.

 

Your email address and mobile phone number are never shared or displayed publicly, unless you wish to share them.

 

Other Technical Stuff

Why can’t I get my song/video to play?

Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash downloaded to your system. (http://www.adobe.com). If you have an older version of Adobe Flash player, make sure that you uninstall prior to downloading the latest version.

 

Also, make sure that you have the latest version of your browser and player installed.  WeMix supports internet explorer, safari, foxfire and mozilla.

 

What Video File formats can I upload?

WeMix accepts video in avi, .mpg/.m4v/.m2v, .mov and .wmv formats.

 

What audio file formats can I upload?

WeMix accepts audio in .aif, .m4a/.aac, .mp3, .ogg and .wav formats.

 

What is the maximum size for an uploaded Video?

Videos uploaded to WeMix shouldn’t be longer than 100MB in size. It is also probably best to keep your video under 8 minutes.

 

What can I do about a Video that constantly stops and starts or continues to buffer?

Make sure that you are on a high-speed connection with at least 500+Kbps.

 

Why can’t I hear any sound while watching a Video?

Check your volume controls on your computer and make sure your volume is not muted.  If there’s still a problem, copy the link to the page and click here to tell us about it.

 

Which thumbnail image is displayed after I upload a Video?

The system is set up to capture a thumbnail image 10 seconds into the video, so please check that you have a good image to display and not a blank screen.
